Founded by Alison Bennett in 2014, Hurrah Hurrah thrives on bold experimentation & gentle rigour. What began as an independent theatre company has evolved into a multidisciplinary performance-making collective, deeply committed to storytelling that grapples with pointy social issues through humour, humanity & beauty.

We are theatre makers, clowns, actors, writers, filmmakers, movers, musicians, advocates, and educators. We are always students.

We are artistes.

A woman with curly grey hair stairs directly at you. Her eyes are serious but with a spark of mischief. She is holding her chin with her right hand.

Ali Bennett

Artistic Director & Founder

Ali is an actor, writer and clown. She once broke both her ankles. She's a classic extroverted introvert.

A woman with long rose blond hair, tapered mullet style with bangs, stares at you. She has friendly eyes and a pink and purple floral shirt.

Rose Maher

Artistic Associate

Originally from Canberra, Rose Maher is an actor, clown, theatre maker and puppeteer.

Mission(s)

Our mission is to make new works of performance that find what we all have in common and celebrate, or just sit with, what we don't.

Our mission is to make work that doesn't ignore the zeitgeist but isn't bossed around by it.

Our mission is to give a shit about the process. How we get there is part of of it and navigating that in a world of marketing speak is bloody hard. The performance is the end point but we believe that the journey there is also a big deal.

Our mission is to make shared events, not just things people watch.

Our mission is to celebrate human mess with humour and rigour.

Our mission is to defend laughter; as a powerful tool for storytelling and a necessary and overlooked function of societal cohesion.

Vision(s)

Our vision is to create a physical space where our creative projects and our artist training programs can co-exist and self sustain.

Our vision is to embrace technology but centre humanity and constantly evolve both creatively and ethically.

Our vision, with guidance from The Theatre Green Book, is to centre green making practices, and in doing so, demand the same from large companies.

Our vision is to make a local theatre for local people that is rigorous, stunning, naughty, respectful, humble, outrageous, exciting and most importantly, invites people in. All people. Even the ones who disagree with us. Even the ones who annoy us. Even the ones who will say that this vision  statement won't drive traffic or generate data or do thousands of other things unrelated to our work.

Even them.

ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE

HH acknowledges  the  Wangal and Gadigal lands of the Eora nation on which we create. We pay our respects to the custodians of these lands and we recognise that all country was stolen. These lands were never ceded. We honour the millennia of storytellers who have been working and playing here since the beginning.
